Across boundaries project The project concerning quadrilateral exchange of youth, realized on Siberia by Black & White Theatre Forms Plama (Cultural Centre of Youth in Suwałki) in collaboration with organizations and artistic groups of young people from Alytus (Lithuania), Lviv (Ukraine) and Angarsk (Russia). The subject of project was transcultural theatre in other words the seeking of jointly language of theatre across boundaries. Project received grant-in-aid of European Youth Programme, it lasted 2 weeks (11 days on Olchon island on the lake Bajkał and 3 days in Angarsk and Irkuck on Siberia), it took part of 46 persons in it, including 10 persons from Black & White Theatre Formes Plama.
The members of Black & White Theatre Forms Plama from Suwałki were dreaming for a long time about exotic theatrical journey. Among lot of places exchanging in conversations Siberia was appearing really often.
Step by step we prepared idea of project Across boundaries, to which we did coax into 3 youth theatrical groups: from Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia. Our project was refinanced by European Youth Programme. We were joking that on our project we will get money of which we would be possible to buy large and modern flat in Suwałki. And yet nobody from us has own flat.
Idea of theatre and meeting across boundaries in distant and fascinating Siberia were very simple: we're going far way out (island Olchon on lake Bajkał), we're getting to know each other better, we're presenting different one's skills and theatrical workshop. After many-sided exchange of experiences we're preparing common performance in four languages with fourty-personal cast in it. We're presenting it for people of Olchon, then we're going to Angarsk - a specific city built by prisoners 55 yars ago, in which is activing Fakil Theatre - Russian co-partner of our project. The city have five prisons, largest in all Russia and of course tipical blocks area. Then we present here our performance and that's all.
What was successful? Get to knew that we are different, but equal and broke all stereotypes. Created the performance and convinced Russians, that outdoor theatre doesn't have to be a circus but it could concerning most important matters and also shaking up the spectator. We arrived as four groups, and we left as one.
What stayed? Remembrance, priceless experiences, sorrow that borders and politician divide people and all the absurd of it. It suffices to meet and the rest happens itself...
Project Above divisions became realized in support of European Commonwealth. Contents of this project not necessearily reflect position of European Commonwealth or National Agency and those institutions doesn't bear for it any responsibility.
